What Is EZCaption?
EZCaption is an optional module which enables the EZNews or EZPrompt XP to send Closed-Captioning data to a standard Closed-Captioning Encoder.
EZCaption feeds the prompter text to the Closed-Caption encoder as the prompter scrolls through the script.
EZCaption can reveal captioned text in a number of options including “paint on” and “three line roll-up”. Open captions can also be produced.
EZCaption Requirements
- EZNews or EZPrompt XP Version 5.0 or later.
- An available serial (RS-232C) port on the prompter computer and a standard serial cable

Is Closed-Captioning A Legal Requirement?
The Telecommunications Act of 1996 mandates Closed-Captioning of all TV programs. Under the law, new video programs, including news, movies, etc., shown on TV by a video programming provider must be captioned.
There are some exceptions to the FCC’s rules on captioning, but for the most part, Closed-Captioning of local programming is mandatory.
EZCaption is a simple, reliable, cost-effective way to provide Closed-Captioning services to your hearing-impaired viewers.
Mirror Image offers a complete line of Closed-Captioning Encoders/Decoders as well.
